FAQ’s

What is Spotto and what are the rules?2025-05-18T19:17:58+10:00

Spotto is a car game where players earn points by spotting yellow vehicles. It’s a classic road trip tradition.

How to Play Spotto

Spotto is a fun game where players compete to spot yellow cars. When you see a yellow car, be the first to shout “Spotto!” and earn a point. It’s simple, competitive, and perfect for road trips, commutes, or anytime you’re out and about.

Suggested Rules

Spotto is a game you can play however you like — make up your own rules and play your way. The only essential rule is that you must spot a yellow car to score. But if you’d prefer a more structured game, here are some suggested rules we use to keep things fair, fun, and just the right amount of challenging.

1. Both players must be present

No solo spotting allowed. This isn’t a game against yourself. That’s called… driving.

2. Both must see the same yellow car

If only one person sees it, it doesn’t count. No sneaky claims. Nice try, Steve. That bus was orange and you know it.

3. The yellow car must be moving or about to move

The car needs to be in motion or obviously part of traffic — like stopped at lights or an intersection. Parked cars don’t count, even in a carpark. If it’s not going anywhere, neither are your points. It must be in use and under the control of a driver. (Babies and dogs don’t count, Chief.)

4. Driver rules (choose one):

  • Option A: The driver can’t use mirrors or claim they “knew it was coming.” You’re not psychic, Darren.

  • Option B: The driver gives the passenger 3 seconds to spot the car after it passes. Because we believe in second chances.

5. The car must be yellow

Not “kind of yellow.” Not “golden mustard at sunset.” Just… yellow.

6. At least 80% of the car must be yellow

A yellow spoiler doesn’t count. A yellow van? Absolutely. A yellow car with purple flames? Debatable. Prepare to argue.

7. Mega Spotto

Make up your own super-rare sighting worth mega points. Ours? A clown in a yellow car. Worth 10 points and eternal bragging rights.

To use it: set the points in settings, then hold down +1 for 5 seconds. Because greatness takes time.

Disagreements

Not sure if it counts? Argue about it. Loudly. That’s half the fun.
